Combating Money Laundering And Terrorism Financing

In his keynote address at the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants Financial Forensic Conference, Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean says that authorities will forge partnerships with the private sector to target individuals involved in terrorism financing. Singapore will increasingly use technology and data analytics to tackle cross-border crime and money laundering.

The launch of a postgraduate programme on financial forensics by the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants aims to cultivate and develop financial forensic professionals. It is also the first qualification that is focused on forensic accountancy offered by a professional body in Southeast Asia.

DPM Teo also emphasised that financial professionals are crucial in helping businesses against money laundering and terrorism financing. Only by understanding the threats and risks, can then all these be proactively dealt with.

Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and Commercial Affairs Department (CAD) have collaborated to launch an initiative that brought industry players together with government agencies to better combat money laundering and terrorism financing. It is crucial that techniques to combat money laundering and terrorism finance are up to date.
