Overview

The workshop is designed to present current state of the art approaches to formation pressure and earth stress evaluation up to and including HTHP wells. Subsurface non-productive time (NPT) currently accounts for some 10% of well costs. This course will provide the key tools to help to predict, evaluate and mitigate subsurface risks to enable wells to be drilled much more cost effectively. As well as presentations a number of class exercises and case studies will be used to enhance learnings. Tim will pass on hints and tips from his long experience working with formation pressures.

Use and interpret direct pressure measurements
HTHP and deepwater wells from the geologist’s perspective
Mitigation techniques for risks in well planning and execution of HTHP wells
Use of managed pressure drilling (MPD) in HTHP

Who Should Attend

The case is aimed at professionals involved in the planning and execution of wells where formation pressures are an issue. As this is an advanced course attendees will be assumed to have a working knowledge of rigs and drilling activities.
