Excellence in Offshore Process Safety and Risk Management

4th March 2019 - 6th March 2019

Overview

Offshore oil and gas operation is one of the most challenging engineering operation. Offshore oil and gas operation by its first nature are: remote and hazardous. As Safety being the most important aspect of engineering design decision-making, it is paramount to all concern engineers understand it the best. Offshore safety is assessed and designed in the form of risk factor. Assessing and managing risk is part of regulatory requirements as much as it is part of business plan.

Engineers in oil and gas industries use the concept of risk in day-to-day design and operation. However, there is significant lack in understanding of fundamentals and more importantly how to assess risk and consider it for decision making. Risk analysis is increasingly used to validate claims for safety/environmental benign characteristics or to demonstrate the need for further improvement.

This short course aims to provide detailed understanding of offshore safety concepts, risk concept, risk modelling and simulation, and more recent advancement in the field of risk and reliability engineering related to offshore operation. Example from existing and planned offshore operation will dawn to illustrate the concepts and their application.

This workshop will incorporate both theory and practical strategies. The latest educational methods and strategies will be employed. Delegates will maximize their benefit from the outset and the course will provide opportunities for participants to discuss with the presenter and others specific problems and appropriate solutions.

Who Should Attend

Attendees from the oil & gas industry would include both local and multinational companies and operation companies. Titles include:

  • Senior process manager and experienced process engineer
  • Instrument engineers and safety engineers
  • Operating and maintenance personnel who are responsible for, or are involved in , any of the lifecycle phases for safeguarding systems from hazard and risk assessment, the specification and design of shut down systems/fire and gas systems, systems installation and operational testing and maintenance.

Key Learning Objectives

  • STRUCTURING hierarchical shutdown levels including ESD, SPS EDP etc
  • UNDERSTAND the making of HIPS or HIPPS and application based on case study
  • IMPROVE your preventative and risk mitigating protective systems
  • ADOPT computer-aided offshore EER strategies (Escape, Evacuation and Rescue Risk)
  • UNDERSTAND the concepts and differences between qualitative and quantitative risk assessment (QRA) methods and when and how to apply them
  • APPRECIATE the concept reducing risks to as low as reasonably possible as a risk control apparatus
  • KNOW how to set up, use and apply the most popular risk assessment methods such as risk graphs, risk matrices and layers of protection analysis
