Human Factors Engineering

25th April 2016

Overview

This training course, based on the well-established discipline of Human Factors Engineering (HFE), will introduce you to contemporary thinking related to Applied Human Factors and Safety in Design and illustrate, through numerous examples, why it’s critical to incorporate HFE into your own projects. Case studies will be used to provide delegates with a clear understanding of what can go wrong without HFE and that its inclusion leads to improved operational performance for the plants you’re using and designing. The course presenter will share detailed first-hand experience of how HFE was applied within real projects, to demonstrate the flexibility of the HFE processes to fit them to real work. To crystalize the learning experience, the training will include a number of workshop sessions where students (working in groups) will apply the theory to various case studies.

Who Should Attend

This training is for Project Managers, Project Engineers, Lead Engineers, Engineers, R&D Researchers & Operators responsible for:

  • System Safety
  • Human Factors
  • Human Factors Engineering
  • HES
  • Oil and Gas Plant Design
  • Piping & Layout
  • Electrical & Instrumentation
  • Project Engineering
  • Operations&Maintenance
  • Vendor Packaged Equipment

Testimonials

“The case studies and workshop session were particularly useful in helping me figure out how to conduct initial human factors screening – this will help me with my project engineering tasks.”

Delegate from Introduction to Human Factors Training sessions for GE Oil & Gas

Key Learning Points Include:

  • GAIN awareness of the fundamental capabilities and limitations of humans
  • ACQUIRE awareness of the potential catastrophic consequences of failing to consider the human in design
  • EMBRACE the inclusion of humans as a fundamental part of oil and gas plant design
  • DEVELOP a frame of reference that ensures that humans are given due consideration when design decisions are made
  • UNDERSTAND various tools and techniques to help manage human issues throughout the plant lifecycle
  • RECOGNISE opportunities to make informed trade-offs to improve safety, improve operations and maintenance, and reduce shut-down time
