Southeast Asia Petroleum Systems

October 8 - October 10

SEA petroleum systems training

Why Choose this Training Course

Based on the trainer’s experience of NW Borneo hydrocarbon exploration and development, knowledge of subsurface analogue data and use of outcrop analogues, this SEA petroleum systems training aims for delegates to acquire knowledge on how SE Asian petroleum systems work.

The SEA petroleum systems training will make use of seismic, log and core data, outcrop examples as well as relevant case histories.

Where relevant, sequence stratigraphy, reservoir models and sediment petrographic data and principles will be used to invoke reservoir effectivity discussion.

Business context

Throughout the exploration cycle, from play-based exploration to prospect maturation, from near field exploration to appraisal, a sound geological knowledge of basin type, sediment-fill, and deformation phases, should underpin the regional play and detailed prospect specific mapping, modelling and subsequent risk and volumetrics work.

We are also a proud member of the Energy Institute of UK.

Who Should Attend

  • Exploration Geologists and Geophysicists
  • Junior Geoscientists new to the region
  • Senior national staff geologists
  • Petrophysicists
  • Reservoir Engineers
  • Anyone working closely with exploration teams in the region, such as those in new business development, project management, or even management roles, could benefit from a foundational understanding of the petroleum systems

Key Learning Objectives

  • Provides a comprehensive view of how hydrocarbon systems function specifically within Southeast Asia. This isn’t just theory; it’s grounded in the trainer’s extensive real-world experience from NW Borneo.
  • Synthesize information from various sources including seismic, log, and core data, along with subsurface and outcrop analogues. This integrated approach is crucial for accurate interpretation and decision-making in exploration and development.
  • Understand how theoretical concepts translate into actual exploration and development scenarios, offering valuable lessons learned.
  • Explore how principles of sequence stratigraphy, reservoir models, and sediment petrography are used to understand and predict how well a reservoir can store and produce hydrocarbons.
