SUMMARY:Human Factors Safety Critical Task Analysis (SCTA)
DESCRIPTION:Why Choose this Training Course\nHuman Factors is recognized as a key topic for addressing safety in the oil\, gas\, onshore chemical plants\, pharmaceutical manufacturing and power generation sectors. \nWhat is Safety Critical Task Analysis (SCTA)?\nTask Analysis refers to the study of what actions and mental processes a person needs to perform to achieve a goal (Kirwan and Ainsworth). It often breaks down tasks into smaller subtasks to describe how they are done. \nSafety Critical Task Analysis (SCTA)\, on the other hand\, focuses on tasks that are critical to preventing major accidents. These are tasks where human factors can contribute to\, cause\, or fail to mitigate a major accident. \nDefinition of a Safety Critical Task (SCT):\nAn SCT is any task where human error could: \n\nCause or contribute to a major accident\nFail to prevent or mitigate one\n\nSCTs occur in various operational contexts\, such as: \n\nOperational tasks: e.g.\, loading liquid petroleum gas (LPG)\, sampling hazardous substances\, or isolating piping/equipment.\nPrevention and detection: e.g.\, testing safety systems or overriding safety functions.\nControl and mitigation: e.g.\, testing pressure safety valves or firewater pumps.\nEmergency response: e.g.\, deploying firefighting equipment or launching lifeboats.\n\nA “major accident” refers to an event like a large emission\, fire\, or explosion that poses serious risks to health or the environment\, as defined by the Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) Regulations. \nSCTA Process\n\nIdentify Safety Critical Tasks: Determine which tasks are critical to safety.\nPrioritize SCTs for Analysis: Decide which tasks need deeper analysis.\nAnalyze Human Actions: Study which human actions or inactions could lead to failure.\nInstall Layers of Protection: Develop safeguards to reduce human error or its consequences.\n\nSCTA is often conducted during project design or safety updates\, but it’s increasingly embedded into operations as an ongoing activity\, especially when tasks and equipment change. \nImportance of Embedding SCTA in Operations\nFor large-scale operations\, getting specialist input at every site may not be practical. Therefore\, companies are building SCTA knowledge within their workforce\, especially at the management and supervisory levels. This approach improves: \n\nRisk assessment quality\nIncident investigations\nImprovement suggestions\n\nSCTA also supports better maintenance and safety culture by giving personnel a structured way to examine their procedures. This can reveal key barriers to safety and the steps necessary to protect them. \nPerformance Influencing Factors (PIFs)\nA key element of SCTA is understanding PIFs. These factors can either strengthen or degrade safety barriers. Personnel who are familiar with these factors can: \n\nRecognize when safeguards are failing\nUnderstand how human performance impacts safety\n\nBenefits of SCTA\nA well-executed SCTA program can lead to: \n\nImproved major accident hazard (MAH) safety performance\nFewer environmental incidents\nReduced production downtime\nImproved quality\nCost reduction in major projects\n\nIn summary\, SCTA is a powerful tool for analyzing human factors in safety-critical tasks\, helping to prevent major accidents and improve safety performance across industries. \nWho Should Attend\n\nPlant Managers\nProcess Safety specialists\nProcess plant designers\nSupervisors\nSenior process operators\nProcedures and training developers\n\nKey Learning Objectives\n\nUnderstand Human Factors and SCTA\nUnderstand the different types of human error that need to be addressed within process safety\nBe able to use techniques such as Hierarchical Task Analysis\, Human Failure and Consequence analyses\, and Performance Influencing Factors evaluations  for simple tasks\nBe able to develop risk-informed procedures and competency standards based on the results of the SCTA work\nStart to think about developing policies and a programme of work using SCTA to address human factors in process safety\, with particular emphasis on satisfying regulatory requirements such as COMAH\n\nEnquiry SUMMARY:HAZOP Training: Hazard Studies and HAZOP Team Leader
DESCRIPTION:Why Choose this Training Course\nThis is a 3-day HAZOP training course. HAZOP and Hazard studies are an essential part of effective process safety management and HSE risk management. This course covers various process hazard assessment (PHA) techniques that team leaders must understand and be able to apply as well as facilitation skills required to manage successful hazard study meetings.\n \nThese techniques apply to all industry sectors including oil & gas\, petrochemicals\, chemicals\, pharmaceuticals\, and utilities\, both on new projects and on existing operating plants. Each hazard study technique aligns with a project stage and the needs of the level of project development at that stage.\n \nThe course consists of a series of modules that deal with the different hazard study stages and techniques and related process safety concepts and facilitation topics. Presentations are interactive with video illustrations and case studies. Group exercises are used for the different techniques (including\, inherent safety\, HAZID\, HAZOP and procedural HAZOP)\, to enable attendees to put into practice what they have learnt during the lecture presentations.\n \nThe HAZOP training course is intended to be an open course using generic (non-proprietary) examples and case studies but can be adapted with site specific case studies if available. \nWho Should Attend\nThe HAZOP training course is designed for participants who are expected to lead HAZOPs and already have some experience as HAZOP team members. SUMMARY:LOPA and SIL Determination
DESCRIPTION:Why Choose this Training Course\nThis is a 3-days LOPA and SIL training course. Layer of protection analysis (LOPA) is a semi-quantitative\, order of magnitude\, tool for analysing and assessing risk on a process plant used to evaluate the adequacy of existing or proposed controls (layers of protection) against known hazards to achieve tolerable risk criteria. The course covers the different LOPA methodology variations\, single cause\, multiple cause\, simple and complex applications. The most common use of the LOPA technique is for Safety Integrity Levels (SILs) be determined for Safety Instrumented Functions (SIFs) and this is covered in detail\, but non-SIF applications are also coved. \n\nThe LOPA and SIL training course will give you an understanding of the methodology\, application\, and limitations of LOPA. It will help you understand how to select and assess hazardous scenarios by applying the LOPA methodology\, and hv ow to interpret and apply the results including specifying the SIL of a SIF. The course references the CCPS books on LOPA and the latest international standard IEC 61511. At the end of this course the trainee will be able to be an active participant and contributor to LOPA and SIL determination studies.\n \nThe course consists of a series of modules that deal with the different technical aspects of LOPA. Presentations are interactive with video illustrations and case studies. Group exercises are used to enable attendees to put into practice what they have learnt during the lecture presentations. All the essential LOPA steps are practiced in exercises\, the main exercise takes a HAZOP worksheet and builds the LOPA from it.\n \nThe LOPA and SIL training course is intended to be an open course using generic examples and simple spreadsheets / calculations not tied to any proprietary software. The case studies but can be adapted with site specific case studies if available. \nWho Should Attend\nThe LOPA and SIL training course is designed for participants who need to attend and actively contribute to LOPA/SIL studies. The course does not provide LOPA facilitator training but does cover the technical aspects needed that the facilitator must do as part of the LOPA. For those trainees who are already qualified as PHA/HAZOP leaders\, this course will allow them to apply their existing knowledge of the various PHA techniques and their existing leadership/facilitation skills to successfully facilitate LOPA studies. \nTypical attendees would be: \n\nProcess Safety Engineers\nTechnical Safety Engineers\nProcess Design Engineers\nLoss SUMMARY:HAZOP Training: Hazard Studies and HAZOP Team Leader
It is also appropriate for regular team members who wish to develop their HAZOP and PHA skills further by hazard. \nTypical attendees would be: \n\nProcess Safety Engineers\nTechnical Safety Engineers\nProcess Design Engineers\nLoss Prevention Engineers\nTechnical Safety Managers\nProcess Safety Managers\nProcess Safety Advisers and Specialist\nTechnical Safety Advisers and Specialist\nTechnical Safety Authorities\nSafety/HSE Managers\nProcess Safety Consultants\n\nEnquiry Form\n\n \n CommentsThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.SalutationMr.Ms.Miss.Mrs.Mdm.Dr.Prof.Capt.-Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Phone(Required)\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Country\n \n \n \n \n Phone Number\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n Company(Required)Current Location(Required) \n \n \n AfghanistanÅland IslandsAlbaniaAlgeriaAmerican SamoaAndorraAngolaAnguillaAntarcticaAntigua and BarbudaArgentinaArmeniaArubaAustraliaAustriaAzerbaijanBahamasBahrainBangladeshBarbadosBelarusBelgiumBelizeBeninBermudaBhutanBoliviaBonaire\, Sint Eustatius and SabaBosnia and HerzegovinaBotswanaBouvet IslandBrazilBritish Indian Ocean TerritoryBrunei DarussalamBulgariaBurkina FasoBurundiCambodiaCameroonCanadaCape VerdeCayman IslandsCentral African RepublicChadChileChinaChristmas IslandCocos IslandsColombiaComorosCongoCongo\, Democratic Republic of theCook IslandsCosta RicaCôte d'IvoireCroatiaCubaCuraçaoCyprusCzechiaDenmarkDjiboutiDominicaDominican RepublicEcuadorEgyptEl SalvadorEquatorial GuineaEritreaEstoniaEswatiniEthiopiaFalkland IslandsFaroe IslandsFijiFinlandFranceFrench GuianaFrench PolynesiaFrench Southern TerritoriesGabonGambiaGeorgiaGermanyGhanaGibraltarGreeceGreenlandGrenadaGuadeloupeGuamGuatemalaGuernseyGuineaGuinea-BissauGuyanaHaitiHeard Island and McDonald IslandsHoly SeeHondurasHong KongHungaryIcelandIndiaIndonesiaIranIraqIrelandIsle of ManIsraelItalyJamaicaJapanJerseyJordanKazakhstanKenyaKiribatiKorea\, Democratic People's Republic ofKorea\, Republic ofKuwaitKyrgyzstanLao People's Democratic RepublicLatviaLebanonLesothoLiberiaLibyaLiechtensteinLithuaniaLuxembourgMacaoMadagascarMalawiMalaysiaMaldivesMaliMaltaMarshall IslandsMartiniqueMauritaniaMauritiusMayotteMexicoMicronesiaMoldovaMonacoMongoliaMontenegroMontserratMoroccoMozambiqueMyanmarNamibiaNauruNepalNetherlandsNew CaledoniaNew ZealandNicaraguaNigerNigeriaNiueNorfolk IslandNorth MacedoniaNorthern Mariana IslandsNorwayOmanPakistanPalauPalestine\, State ofPanamaPapua New GuineaParaguayPeruPhilippinesPitcairnPolandPortugalPuerto RicoQatarRéunionRomaniaRussian FederationRwandaSaint BarthélemySaint Helena\, Ascension and Tristan da CunhaSaint Kitts and NevisSaint LuciaSaint MartinSaint Pierre and MiquelonSaint Vincent and the GrenadinesSamoaSan MarinoSao Tome and PrincipeSaudi ArabiaSenegalSerbiaSeychellesSierra LeoneSingaporeSint MaartenSlovakiaSloveniaSolomon IslandsSomaliaSouth AfricaSouth Georgia and the South Sandwich IslandsSouth SudanSpainSri LankaSudanSurinameSvalbard and Jan MayenSwedenSwitzerlandSyria Arab RepublicTaiwanTajikistanTanzania\, the United Republic ofThailandTimor-LesteTogoTokelauTongaTrinidad and TobagoTunisiaTürkiyeTurkmenistanTurks and Caicos IslandsTuvaluUgandaUkraineUnited Arab EmiratesUnited KingdomUnited StatesUruguayUS Minor Outlying IslandsUzbekistanVanuatuVenezuelaViet NamVirgin Islands\, BritishVirgin Islands\, U.S.Wallis and FutunaWestern SaharaYemenZambiaZimbabwe\n Country\n \n \n How many people are you looking at?1 - 2 Standard Rates3 - 5 Group Discount>10 In-House Training\, Huge Savings!Undecided\, need more informationThis is just an approximate number.
