Advanced Deepwater Depositional Systems & Reservoir Prediction

November 23 - November 25

Deepwater Depositional Systems

Why Choose this Training Course

This intensive advanced deepwater depositional systems masterclass equips subsurface professionals with the practical skills to better predict deepwater reservoir presence, distribution, architecture, quality and connectivity. By integrating seismic interpretation, well data, depositional understanding and global deepwater analogues, participants will learn how to translate complex subsurface information into more robust reservoir predictions and better-informed exploration, prospect evaluation, appraisal and field development decisions.

Using practical exercises and case studies from Guyana–Suriname, Southeast Asia, West Africa and other major deepwater petroleum provinces, the deepwater depositional systems programme bridges the gap between understanding deepwater depositional systems and applying that knowledge to real-world subsurface uncertainty and reservoir decision-making.

We are also a proud member of the Energy Institute of UK.

Who Should Attend

Designed for multidisciplinary subsurface professionals responsible for translating seismic, geological and well data into reservoir predictions, prospect decisions, appraisal strategies and development plans.

Key Learning Objectives

  • Interpret deepwater depositional systems and recognise key reservoir elements including channels, levees, lobes, basin-floor fans and channel-lobe transition zones.
  • Integrate seismic, well logs, core and geological analogues to develop robust depositional and reservoir models.
  • Predict reservoir presence and sand distribution, including reservoir geometry, thickness, continuity and Net:Gross variability.
  • Evaluate reservoir architecture and connectivity, including stacking patterns, heterogeneity and compartmentalisation.
  • Apply seismic facies analysis and seismic geomorphology to identify depositional elements and map reservoir-prone fairways.
  • Assess reservoir uncertainty and geological risk, developing alternative geological scenarios and understanding their impact on prospect and resource estimates.
  • Translate depositional understanding into stronger prospect evaluation, appraisal planning and reservoir characterisation.
  • Identify the critical subsurface uncertainties following a discovery and determine how appraisal can reduce uncertainty and improve development decisions.
  • Understand how reservoir architecture and connectivity influence reservoir modelling, well placement and field development planning.
  • Apply lessons from Guyana–Suriname, Southeast Asia, West Africa and other global deepwater analogues to current and future deepwater exploration and development challenges.
