Sequence Stratigraphy for Carbonates

22nd June 2017 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Overview

This three day advanced workshop introduces through lectures and exercises the principles of carbonate sequence stratigraphy as applied to hydrocarbon exploration and reservoir characterization. Learning objectives stress the principles that shape depositional and diagenetic facies of carbonate accumulations. The course emphasizes the development of interpretive skills and being able to define original sequence stratigraphic models for both regional and reservoir scale carbonate accumulations. It presents potential pitfalls involving classic geometric expressions used in the interpretation of seismic sequence stratigraphy. It present his theory and research on gamma ray log cycles and their sequence stratigraphic expression in gamma ray logs. It will also provide attendees with the opportunity to interpret the sequence stratigraphy of part of a selected carbonate reservoir.

Benefits Of Attending

  • Describe and use sequence stratigraphic concepts and approaches for analysis
  • Identify geometric problems observed in seismic data
  • Describe key controls shaping facies expressions and distributions (Geobody shape) in various systems tracts
  • Construct a sequence stratigraphic model by integrating lithologic and well log data

Who Should Attend

Explorationists, Reservoir characterization geologists, stratigraphers and geophysicists who wish to extend their knowledge through integration of the latest sequence stratigraphic concepts applicable to seismic data and gamma ray log calibrated core descriptions.
